Chief Operator—Wastewater Treatment Plant: The City of Augusta, Kansas, is seeking a Chief Operator to oversee the operation and maintenance of its wastewater treatment plant, which began operations in 2001. Augusta (8,600 pop.) is located 20 minutes east of Wichita, on the edge of the Flint Hills. The plant is a 1.5 MGD oxidation ditch activated sludge (WesTech OxyCopTM System) wastewater treatment plant. Biosolid processing includes vacuum-assisted sludge drying beds, and the sludge is land-applied.
Responsibilities: Supervision of three Plant Operators; budget preparation and management; compliance with KDHE regulations and NPDES permit; preparing plant reports with use of data provided by the plant SCADA system; maintenance of all pumps, screening equipment, grit removal system, aerators, mixers, clarifiers, stand-by generator, and other equipment; cleaning and maintaining the UV disinfection system; operating a skid-steer, tractor, and slinger; operating and cleaning sludge drying beds; responding to alarms in a timely manner, including after-hours; general grounds and landscaping maintenance; and general cleaning and maintenance of all buildings, pipes, and equipment. Position is not responsible for the collection system or lift stations.
Requirements: At least a Kansas Class III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s certification (or equivalent) and a thorough understanding of the operation of the facility’s lab; at least 2-3 years experience as a wastewater treatment plant operator; valid driver’s license; post-offer physical examination and drug screen.
Compensation: $17-$19 per hour (DOQ) and excellent benefits package.
