The Kansas Water Environment Association is in its twelfth year of providing scholarships for university students wishing to pursue a career in environmental areas and financial assistance for training in environmental vocational technical areas. With board support and approval KWEA will again be offering in the 2011–2012 fiscal year $3,250 in scholarships and financial assistance to Kansas students. Five awards are planned to be made available in 2012:
University applications will be solicited near the end of January 2012 and applications accepted until Feb. 18, 2012. The University Scholarships will be awarded in April 2012 at an awards reception and will be formally announced at the KWEA conference luncheon on Aug. 29, 2012 in Topeka, Kan. Applications for Vo-Tech wastewater training financial assistance can be submitted for consideration anytime throughout the year.
The awards are limited to students attending Kansas schools. University scholarship applicants should also be, at a minimum, finishing their sophomore year in college and interested in pursuing a career in the environmental sciences. There are no financial need requirements, only an essay and other application information on academic achievement and other activities. The Vo-Tech assistance being offered can be requested for any amount (up to $500) paid for or to be paid for by the applicant associated with operator training courses including transportation, books, as well as unreimbursed course costs.
