Committee Objective and Goals
The purpose of the Program Committee is to ensure that the conference comes together in a timely fashion and addresses the needs of our members. The KWEA President Elect serves as the committee chair. To ensure an orderly transition the Vice President will serve as the vice chair. The duties of the committee are listed below.
Committee Activities
- The chair is to assemble the Committee into action by contacting members from the previous year, those who volunteered to serve at the annual meeting, and other Association members who may have an interest in serving on the committee. A list of committee members is to be submitted to the President before the first executive meeting following the Annual Meeting. At the minimum the committee should include committee chairs of key committees, representatives from the consulting profession, academia, regulators and the Manufacturer’s Trustee or their designated representative.
- Strive to stimulate interest in the Kansas Water Environment Association and its activities with areas of endeavor consistent with the Association’s stated policies and objectives.
- Responsible for developing a meaningful and stimulating program for the Annual Conference, guided by the theme and wishes of the Executive Committee and the needs of the membership and the community. Collect attendance and quality information during the conference for each presentation and provide such information in a report to the Executive Board at the first Board Meeting following the annual conference. Following the report to the Executive Board an executive summary should be submitted for publishing in the post conference Splashings.
- Secure, in consultation with the President, a keynote speaker of some prominence, whose experience will allow them to speak appropriately to the program theme.
- Secure all papers and speakers for the program either by direct solicitation, a call for papers, or other appropriate means, cooperating to the fullest extent with all other committees which may be in a position to suggest or provide program topics.
- Select timely subject matter. Seek out individuals outside the organization with special qualifications to present or preside over any special session.
- Provide assistant presiders for each session to collect data regarding attendance numbers, rating sheets if used and to validate CEU/PDH.
- Secure required audio visual and other resources necessary for each speaker.
- Suggest necessary modifications to the program committee description and duties contained therein. Coordinate with the President and Executive Board any special educational or social activity.
- The committee chair shall submit a written report to the Vice President on the committee's activities at least 30 days prior to the annual meeting. The Vice President will compile the committee reports, distribute them to the Board, and turn them over to the new vice president for use in assessing changes for the next program year.
