Committee Objective and Goals
The main objectives of this committee are to a) provide a stable and sound economic base for the KWEA, b) ensure compliance with federal and state requirements for a 503(c) not-for-profit organization, c) provide fiscal consistency related to revenue and expenditures, d) maximize returns on investments, and e) establish/maintain/modify financial policies, processes and procedures, as is appropriate.
Committee Structure
The committee will operate with the following members:
- Committee will consist of up to five (5) members
- One member to be the KWEA Treasurer (3 years)
- One member to be a WEF Director (3 years)
- One member to be the new Vice President (1 year)
- Two (2) at-large volunteer positions (3 years each expiring on a rotating basis).
Specific Committee Tasks & Duties
The Committee will perform, but not be limited to, the following tasks and activities:
- Establish Annual Budget with input from various committees and Board members.
- Determine and maintain the appropriate reserve funds.
- Assist in the development of appropriate fees, rates, and charges for memberships, annual conference registration, fall and other workshops registration, booth charges, advertising, etc.
- Periodically (June and December) review expenditures (large expenses, paid staff) and benchmark/compare with similarly sized MAs.
- Develop and maintain a long-range financial plan of anticipated revenue sources and future expenditures, as well as identify potential impacts on each.
- Establish policies and procedures with respect to budget requests, reimbursing MA-related expenses, setting fees and rates, schedule and types of required reports, tax return requirements, procurement of services, commodities and capital expenditures, payment approval processes, etc.
- Review current revenue streams, identify potential new ones, and provide recommendations.
- Perform a bi-annual review on investments, investment strategies, and make recommendations on establishment of, and modifications to, an investment policy.
- Review the Scholarship Fund annually and provide information to the Scholarship Committee related to scholarship amounts.
- Identify new programs, services or ideas which KWEA can financially support or assist with, such as student chapters, young professionals, Water For People, KWEA Booth at other conferences, guest speaker fees, travel to WEFTEC by Executive Board members, and other services/products.
- Ensure that the Audit Committee performs the annual audit on a timely basis.
