Biosolids Certification

New Voluntary Certification for Biosolids

Management Professionals - The KWEA Biosolids Committee has developed a new voluntary certification examination for Biosolids Management Professionals. This certification is intended for those professionals that manage biosolids land application and/or beneficial reuse programs, and will include municipal employees, biosolids contractors, and others in biosolids management. Municipalities are encouraged to require this certification for contractors as part of their long-term biosolids hauling and application contracts.

This is a voluntary certification similar to those in place in Kansas for professionals involved with wastewater collection systems, water distribution systems, industrial wastes, and water or wastewater laboratories. The certification will be administered by Kansas Environmental Training System (KETS), and tests will be administered by Association of Boards of Certification (ABC) on the same schedule as the other voluntary certifications. The test will include 100 questions from the following categories: Class A programs, equipment, health and safety, land treatment, public information, regulations, sampling, site management, sludge characteristics, sludge processing, and soil characteristics. Most of the questions come from the EPA part 503 regulations, KDHE land application guidance, and wastewater treatment sludge processing operator examinations.

Questions related to examination schedules may be referred to:
